Our history
The story of WOW-Plantbased began with a great passion for cheese.
Behind the company is Niels Kristian Sørensen, one of Denmark’s foremost cheese specialists with more than 25 years of experience in cheese production and flavour development. Through his work in the food industry and in collaboration with universities, he has spent many years studying how taste, texture, and fermentation can create the perfect experience in cheese.
As interest in plant-based alternatives grew, an idea emerged: Could the same professional knowledge and expertise be used to develop a plant-based alternative capable of meeting the expectations we have of cheese in cooking?
That question became the starting point for an intensive development process. From the beginning of 2021, work was initiated in close collaboration with the Danish Technological Institute, which has served as a key knowledge partner throughout the development. Through two years of research, testing, and product development, the foundation was laid for a new generation of plant-based cheese alternatives.
At the end of 2022, Nikris ApS was established by Niels Kristian Sørensen to bring the vision to life and take the products to market in both foodservice and industry.
Since then, the focus has been clear: developing high-quality plant-based cheese alternatives created for cooking and gastronomy. The products are developed using carefully selected ingredients from regional sources, with great attention paid to taste, texture, functionality, and nutritional quality.
WOW-Plantbased is the result of many years of expertise, several years of dedicated development work, and an ambition to create new possibilities within plant-based gastronomy.
